In a significant and exceptional decision, the Telangana government has officially approved the renaming of the Government High School in Bottuguda, Nalgonda. It will now be known as Komatireddy Pratheek Government Primary and High School, Bottuguda, Nalgonda.
This renaming serves as a poignant tribute to Komatireddy Pratheek Reddy, the son of Roads & Buildings Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy, who tragically passed away in a road accident in December 2011.
The government’s order, issued on Tuesday (October 14, 2025), represents a special exemption from the existing 2018 guidelines concerning the naming of government schools. These guidelines typically govern how schools are named in honor of donors and philanthropists.
The standard 2018 policy stipulates that any Indian or NRI donor can only have a specific block or building within a school named after them, without altering the school’s overall name. Furthermore, the updated donation thresholds for such recognitions are set at ₹25 lakh for primary schools, ₹50 lakh for upper primary schools, and ₹1 crore for high schools, applicable for new constructions or renovations.
It’s also worth noting that a government junior college in Nalgonda town was previously named the Komatireddy Pratheek Reddy Memorial Government Junior College back in 2012, further cementing his legacy in the region’s educational institutions.
