Amidst a wave of increasing dissatisfaction within the Nair community, G. Sukumaran Nair, the General Secretary of the influential Nair Service Society (NSS), firmly reiterated the organization’s backing for the Left Democratic Front (LDF) Government concerning the contentious Sabarimala issue. His declaration was made on Saturday, September 27, 2025.
Addressing the press on the sidelines of a community meeting held at Perunna, Mr. Nair stated that his position had been unequivocally communicated previously and he had no further comments to add. When questioned about the ongoing protests targeting him, he asserted his readiness to confront any opposition directly.
The scheduled meeting at the Pratinidhi Sabha Hall, located at the NSS headquarters, aims to review and approve the Nair Service Society’s income and expenditure accounts. However, Mr. Nair’s pro-government stance on Sabarimala is anticipated to dominate the discussions. He is also expected to directly address the escalating protests and dissent brewing within the community against his leadership.
Adding to the tension, a new banner has emerged near the Chennad Karayogam office of the NSS, close to Poonjar. This banner explicitly calls for Mr. Nair’s resignation, leveling severe accusations against him for allegedly “betraying Lord Ayyappa devotees” and claiming he is “serving at the feet of Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.”
The group responsible for this defiant display identifies themselves as the “self-proud Ayyappa Devotees of the Karayogam.”
Earlier that day, Congress leader and Mavelikkara MP Kodikkunnil Suresh reportedly visited the NSS headquarters, engaging in a brief discussion with Mr. Nair, a detail that further highlights the political undercurrents surrounding the situation.
