Speaking on Wednesday, BJP Tamil Nadu president Nainar Nagenthran asserted that citizens had previously endured hardship under the complicated multi-tax system during the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government. He credited the Goods and Services Tax (GST), introduced by the current BJP administration, with significantly easing this financial strain on the populace.
In a recent statement posted on X (formerly Twitter), Mr. Nagenthran highlighted that the GST’s implementation in 2017 had already lowered the taxation load on the public. He further elaborated that the introduction of a new two-tier GST system is expected to create even more opportunities for savings for common people.
He pointed out that while a broad spectrum of society has embraced these GST reforms, the DMK government, influenced by political considerations, has been reluctant to support them. Nagenthran urged the DMK government to cease misleading the public and instead collaborate with the Centre on initiatives designed to reduce taxes and improve public welfare.
