To commemorate World Rabies Day on September 28th, People For Animals (PFA) Mysuru has partnered with Reaching Out To Animals to kick off a vital week-long vaccination campaign. This initiative aims to protect our beloved animals and raise crucial awareness within the community.
Beginning September 23rd, this anti-rabies vaccination drive focuses on educating the public about effective rabies prevention methods and emphasizing the absolute necessity of vaccinating household pets. It’s a proactive step towards a healthier, safer environment for everyone.
World Rabies Day is a globally recognized event, championed by the World Health Organization and the Global Alliance for Rabies Control. It not only highlights the ongoing fight against rabies but also honors the incredible legacy of Louis Pasteur, the pioneering French scientist who developed the very first rabies vaccine.
The campaign got off to a fantastic start! On its opening day, an impressive 127 dogs received their vaccinations across various Mysuru localities. These included areas like Kergalli, Salhundi, Nanjarajayahundi, Ramnahalli, Hanchya, Mahadevpura, Sattgalli, Bharatnagar, Vishveshwaranagar, Manandavadi Road, Kuvempunagar 2nd Stage, BEML Nagar, Shivapura, and Srirampura, ensuring wide community reach.
A heartwarming aspect of the drive was providing many dogs with their very first vaccinations, as their owners were previously unaware of its critical importance. Beyond just the shots, dedicated volunteers engaged with residents, sharing valuable information about the benefits of the Anti-Rabies Vaccine and the Animal Birth Control (ABC) program. This outreach empowers pet owners to maintain the health and safety of their animal companions.
For those interested, free anti-rabies vaccinations are also available for both dogs and cats at the PFA shelter in Bogadi, running from September 23rd through September 28th. This ensures accessibility for all pet owners in the region.
