Mysuru and its surrounding regions were pounded by heavy to very heavy rainfall throughout Thursday night. While these much-needed downpours helped alleviate the monsoon’s shortfall, they also led to several instances of waterlogging in vulnerable low-lying areas.
According to detailed reports from the Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Center (KSNDMC), Poorigali in Mandya district’s Malavalli taluk recorded a staggering 175.45 mm of rainfall. Meanwhile, Harave, located in Mysuru district’s Hunsur taluk, received 131.5 mm of rain during the 24-hour period concluding at 8:30 a.m. on Friday.
The intense precipitation wasn’t limited to these areas; Agara in Chamarajanagar district’s Yelandur taluk saw 97 mm of rainfall, and Nitturu in Kodagu district’s Virajpet taluk experienced 58.5 mm. These figures highlight the broad reach of the rain across the region.
Mysuru district itself witnessed uniform and widespread rainfall. H.D. Kote recorded 44.1 mm, with its Antarasanthe area receiving 27 mm. Hunsur town and its vicinity were soaked with 58.5 mm, complemented by substantial rainfall in other centers within Hunsur taluk, including Bilikere (40.6 mm), Gowdaragere (76.5 mm), and Hanagodu (33.4 mm).
Further details from KSNDMC indicate that K.R. Nagar’s Hebbalu received 91 mm, and Hosagarahara logged 75.7 mm during the same 24-hour timeframe. Mysuru city and its adjacent areas were hit with 63.7 mm of rain. Elavala, Jayapura, and Varuna were also among the locations reporting significantly high rainfall, confirming that every taluk in the district was impacted by the continuous rain from Thursday through Friday morning.
