Mysuru is set to embrace a grand celebration of yoga as the Karnataka State Amateur Yoga Sports Association, in partnership with the Global Yoga Forum, proudly presents the 50th Senior National Yoga Sports Championship. This significant event will unfold from October 9 to 12 in the heart of the city.
Organized with the support of the Mysuru District Yoga Sports Foundation and the Mysore Vivekananda Yoga Education and Research Institution, and under the esteemed guidance of the Yoga Federation of India (YFI), the championship promises a spectacular gathering.
The serene Sri Ganapathi Sachchidananda Ashram, located along the Mysuru-Nanjangud highway, will serve as the perfect venue. Approximately 600 dedicated yoga practitioners from 25 Indian States and Union Territories are expected to participate in the National Yogasana Competition. Additionally, 145 talented individuals will showcase their prowess in artistic solo yoga, artistic pair yoga, rhythmic yoga, and free-flow yoga sports categories.
During a press briefing on Wednesday, Ashok Kumar Aggarwal, Chairman of YFI, confirmed the attendance of 175 national yoga referees and officials. He also announced that the annual general meeting of the YFI, where presidents and secretaries from various affiliated State and Union Territory yoga associations will convene, is scheduled for Thursday in Mysuru.
The championship will be inaugurated by the revered Ganapathi Sachchidananda Swami, with the esteemed presence of Mysuru MP Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar and other dignitaries.
The main competition events are scheduled for October 10 and 11, running daily from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. The grand prize distribution ceremony and a mass yoga demonstration will conclude the championship on October 12 at 10 a.m.
The competition structure caters to both men and women across six distinct age groups: 18-21 years, 21-25 years, 25-30 years, 30-35 years, 35-45 years, and over 45 years. Mr. Aggarwal highlighted the significance of this year’s event, noting that the federation, established in 1974, has successfully organized 49 National Yoga Sports Championships to date, making the Mysuru edition a golden jubilee milestone.
