A shadow has fallen over the Bihar elections following the perplexing death of Dular Chand Yadav, a figure known for his transition from gangster to politician. Yadav was tragically found dead during an election campaign in Patna’s Mokama area, prompting authorities to swiftly establish a medical board to oversee his post-mortem examination.
Patna (Rural) Superintendent of Police, Vikram Sihag, confirmed that the autopsy would be conducted at a government hospital in Mokama, located approximately 100 kilometers from the city. According to police, initial findings suggest Yadav sustained a bullet injury to his foot before ultimately dying after being run over by a vehicle. This unusual sequence of events has intensified the focus on the investigation.
Law enforcement agencies have initiated a comprehensive search operation to apprehend anyone involved in what is now being treated as a potential killing. The cremation of Dular Chand Yadav is expected to take place shortly after the crucial post-mortem report is finalized.
The incident unfolded in Mokama, where Yadav had recently allied with Prashant Kishor’s Jan Suraaj Party. He was actively campaigning for the party’s candidate, Piyush Priyadarshi, when a reported clash with political rivals turned deadly.
As Yadav’s body was transported from his native village in Mokama to the hospital, numerous supporters and local residents lined the roads, expressing their shock and grief. The gravity of the situation was further underscored by prominent political figures visiting the deceased’s family.
Among those offering condolences were Veena Devi, the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) candidate from Mokama, and her husband, former MLA Suraj Bhan. Addressing reporters, Mr. Bhan vehemently called for an independent, high-level inquiry into the death, preferably led by a retired judge. He also urged the Election Commission to take strict action against any violations of the model code of conduct related to the incident.
Adding to the calls for justice, Independent Lok Sabha MP Rajesh Ranjan, popularly known as Pappu Yadav, also extended his sympathies and solidarity to Dular Chand Yadav’s grieving family.
