A dramatic hostage incident unfolded in Mumbai’s Powai neighborhood on Thursday, resulting in the safe rescue of 20 children who had been held captive at RA Studio. The man responsible for the ordeal, identified as Rohit Arya, was reportedly mentally challenged and was killed during the subsequent rescue operation.
According to Jeevan Sonawane, Senior Inspector of Powai Police, Arya had taken the students hostage and was seeking to speak with former Maharashtra Education Minister Deepak Kesarkar regarding issues he had with the education department.
The incident began when children were called for an audition at RA Studio. The Mumbai Fire Brigade and police launched a coordinated hour-long operation, utilizing hydraulic tools to breach the premises. Authorities reported that Arya was armed with a weapon resembling a gun.
Rohit Arya was confirmed to have died during the rescue efforts. Police, who took him into custody, noted his apparent mental instability.
