M.K. Raghavan, the esteemed Member of Parliament representing Kozhikode, has initiated a formal request for a comprehensive investigation into a deeply concerning incident in New Delhi. Two students hailing from Kerala were reportedly subjected to an alleged police assault near the iconic Red Fort, where they faced baseless accusations of theft.
In a strongly worded letter addressed to the Delhi City Police Commissioner, Mr. Raghavan highlighted the serious accusations made by the students, I.T. Aswanth and K. Sudhin, both currently enrolled at Zakir Husain Delhi College. They claim that on September 24, they were violently confronted, stripped, beaten, and kicked in the face by a group comprising police personnel and other individuals. A particularly alarming aspect of their complaint is the allegation that they were compelled to speak in Hindi, despite their native language being different.
Mr. Raghavan emphasized the gravity of such an accusation within India’s diverse linguistic landscape, stating unequivocally that coercing individuals to speak a specific language is a profoundly serious matter. He urged that if any police personnel are found culpable in this distressing incident, immediate and decisive criminal and disciplinary measures must be taken against them, ensuring justice for the affected students.
