A shocking incident unfolded in Velachery this Monday morning when two Metropolitan Transport Corporation (MTC) buses were involved in a direct head-on collision. The impact left eight individuals, including one of the bus drivers, with injuries.
The accident occurred around 7 a.m. on September 22, 2025. An MTC bus, serving Route No. 51 V from Saidapet to S. Kolathur, was traveling southbound on Velachery Main Road. As it neared the Dhandeeswaram temple junction, it tragically crashed head-on with another MTC bus (Route No. M51V) approaching from the opposite direction. Both vehicles sustained severe damage to their front sections.
Among those injured was Anbalagan, the 44-year-old driver of the V51E bus, hailing from Madipakkam. Passengers also affected included Nirai Pandian (27) from Velachery, Dinakaran (30) from Kovilambakkam, Vimala (62) from Santhoshapuram, and Amala Sasikala (50) from Nanmangalam, alongside others who sustained injuries.
Emergency services were quick to respond, with ‘108’ ambulances transporting all eight injured individuals to Government Royapettah Hospital in Chennai. They are presently receiving medical care at the facility.
Upon notification, the Adyar Traffic Investigation Wing promptly dispatched officials to the crash site. They worked efficiently to remove the damaged buses and alleviate the resulting traffic congestion. An official investigation into the cause of the collision has commenced, and a case has been formally registered.
The unfortunate incident caused significant traffic delays on Velachery Main Road, disrupting morning commutes for more than an hour.
