Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami recently conducted a review of the extensive damage inflicted by the heavy rainfall on September 15th. Areas such as Sahastradhara and Maldevta in Dehradun, alongside various other districts across the state, bore the brunt of these intense downpours.
Fresh heavy showers overnight have once again devastated the Himalayan states of Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh. These regions were already reeling from a series of deadly natural calamities that have occurred over the past couple of months.
The latest cloudbursts and torrential rains have resulted in a tragic loss of life in Uttarakhand, with 15 individuals confirmed dead, 16 missing, and over 900 people currently stranded in various locations. In Himachal Pradesh, the relentless rains triggered massive landslides and flash floods, tragically killing three members of a single family.
Search and rescue operations are ongoing amidst challenging weather conditions. Personnel from the NDRF, SDRF, and fire brigades are working diligently to evacuate those stranded to safety, as reported by Uttarakhand’s State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC).
Meanwhile, the Jammu and Kashmir Congress has reported “colossal damage” across the Union Territory due to the severe rains and floods, urging Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to mobilize a proactive administrative response to the crisis. The relentless rainfall ensures there’s no immediate relief in sight for these battered regions.
