Mithun Manhas, a respected former captain of the Delhi cricket team, has officially been confirmed as the president-elect of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). His election is set to be a unanimous decision, as he will be chosen unopposed at the Board’s upcoming annual general meeting this Sunday, signaling a clear path for his leadership.
The confirmation came on Monday from election officer A.K. Joti, who, after a thorough review of all nomination papers, released the definitive list of valid candidates. Notably, only one individual was nominated for each position. This outcome follows extensive internal discussions with influential political figures to strategically determine and finalize the new slate of BCCI office-bearers.
In other significant news, Arun Dhumal will retain his position as chairman of the prestigious Indian Premier League (IPL) governing council. Dhumal, who previously served as BCCI treasurer from 2019–22 before transitioning to lead the IPL in 2022, underwent an eligibility assessment. It was confirmed that the IPL governing council role does not fall under the purview of a standard BCCI office-bearer, thus exempting him from any cooling-off period requirements and ensuring his continued tenure.
The finalized list of validated nominations for the key administrative roles within the BCCI and IPL is as follows:
- President: Mithun Manhas
- Vice-President: Rajeev Shukla
- Secretary: Devajit Saikia
- Joint Secretary: Prabhtej Singh Bhatia
- Treasurer: A. Raghuram Bhat
- Apex Council Member: Jaydev Niranjan Shah
- IPL Governing Council Members: Arun Singh Dhumal, M. Khairul Jamal Majumdar
