In a significant development, a head constable of the Delhi Police sustained injuries, and two other officers had their bulletproof jackets pierced by bullets during an encounter in the Mehrauli area early Saturday morning. The confrontation occurred around 4 AM between the police and the accused, identified as Kanishk, alias Kuku.
The exchange of fire began when the accused opened fire on the police team in an attempt to evade capture. Head Constable Ravindra was injured in the incident, while the protective vests of two other officers stopped bullets that were fired at them. In response, the Mehrauli Police team returned fire, successfully overpowering and apprehending the assailant, who was also shot.
The injured accused, Koku Pahadia, was promptly transported to a local hospital for treatment and is reported to be in stable condition. Pahadia, a resident of Madangir, Delhi, has a notable criminal history and is wanted in connection with several cases, including involvement in illegal arms supply. A case has been registered against him under the relevant legal provisions.
During the operation, police also confiscated two pistols, loaded magazines, and four spent cartridges from Pahadia’s possession. An investigation is currently underway to identify the source of the firearms and to uncover any associates involved in the illegal arms trade.
This incident follows a recent operation in Rohini where the Delhi Police Crime Branch, in collaboration with Bihar Police, neutralized four members of the notorious Ranjan Pathak gang during a pre-dawn encounter. Those individuals were wanted for serious crimes in Bihar, including murder and armed robbery.
