The Chikkamagaluru Police Department has a new, highly specialized member joining its ranks: Rudra, a one-year-old sniffer dog expertly trained to locate narcotics. Rudra recently completed an intensive six-month training program at the prestigious Karnataka State Police Dog Squad Training Centre in Adugodi, Bengaluru.
According to a press release from the Chikkamagaluru Police on Friday, Rudra’s extensive training covers the detection of both traditional and synthetic drug substances, making him a formidable asset in the fight against illegal drugs.
Accompanying Rudra is his dedicated handler, Sharath Kumar H.E., an Armed Head Constable, who also completed specialized training alongside his canine partner. Beyond active enforcement, Rudra and the dog squad are actively involved in community outreach. They have already showcased their skills in anti-drug awareness demonstrations at various colleges throughout the city on Thursday and Friday.
The police emphasize their commitment to public education, stating that the dog squad will continue to conduct these vital awareness programs in schools and colleges, aiming to spread the message about the dangers of drug use across the younger generation.
