In a significant operation, law enforcement officials have successfully intercepted a massive consignment of illegal firecrackers, estimated to be worth approximately ₹45 lakh. The dangerous hoard was discovered in an unauthorized godown nestled within the Teachers Colony residential area of Secunderabad, following a joint raid by the Commissioner’s Task Force (North Zone) and Trimulgherry police.
According to police reports, the extensive collection, featuring numerous popular brands, was crammed into around 250 cartons. Crucially, these explosives were stored without any valid licenses or necessary safety clearances. Situated in a densely populated neighborhood, right next to Durga Agency, this illicit storage created an extreme fire risk, endangering the lives and property of countless residents.
The individual responsible, 54-year-old Abhimanyu Kumar Sharma, who operates a firecracker business and lives in the very same locality, was promptly apprehended during the raid.
Sharma is accused of blatant violations of both the Explosives Act and critical safety regulations. He was unable to provide any legitimate documentation to account for such a substantial quantity of highly flammable materials.
Consequently, a case has been officially registered against him under specific sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (288, 125, and 223) and Section 9B(1)(b) of the Explosives Act, 1884, highlighting the gravity of his actions.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Task Force) Y.V.S. Sudheendra emphasized that this significant seizure is a vital component of an ongoing campaign targeting the illegal storage and sale of explosive materials, especially crucial as the festive season approaches. He assured the public that these diligent inspections would persist, underscoring the authorities’ commitment to preventing fire tragedies and upholding community safety.
