In a decisive operation against drug trafficking, excise officials successfully intercepted and seized a substantial quantity of eight kilograms of cannabis at Kokkala, an area strategically located near the Thrissur railway station, on Saturday morning.
Following the significant bust, two men identified as Yesanthan and Meher Pradhan, both residents of Odisha, were promptly arrested. The illicit substance was found carefully divided and packed into four separate bundles, indicating a planned distribution.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the accused transported the contraband via train, with authorities suspecting the cannabis was smuggled into Kerala from Odisha. The seized narcotics, carefully concealed within two distinct bags, represent a considerable value, estimated to be worth several lakhs in the clandestine illegal market.
A thorough and detailed interrogation of Yesanthan and Meher Pradhan is currently underway as officials work to dismantle the larger drug network and identify other potential individuals involved in this smuggling operation.
