Maruti Suzuki India Limited has made a groundbreaking move by becoming the first automotive manufacturer in the nation to deliver vehicles to the scenic Kashmir Valley using the extensive network of Indian Railways. The company proudly announced the successful arrival of its very first rail consignment at the newly established Anantnag terminal on Friday, October 3, 2025.
This historic shipment, consisting of over 100 popular Maruti Suzuki models like the Brezza, Dzire, WagonR, and S-Presso, commenced its journey from the company’s recently opened Manesar in-plant railway siding. The train traversed more than 850 kilometers, notably crossing the world’s highest railway arch bridge over the majestic Chenab river on its way to Anantnag.
This impressive bridge, a crucial component of the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) project, was inaugurated earlier this year. Its completion is set to dramatically improve regional connectivity and significantly boost logistical efficiency across the area.
Highlighting the transformative impact of improved rail transport on both the economy and local communities, Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw, the esteemed Union Minister for Railways, Information and Broadcasting, Electronics & Information Technology, stated, “Just as apples from the valley have recently benefited from the Jammu & Kashmir rail link, we now witness Maruti Suzuki cars arriving by rail. The Jammu-Srinagar railway line is truly a game-changer for the people of Jammu & Kashmir.”
Commenting on this strategic partnership, Mr. Hisashi Takeuchi, Managing Director & CEO of Maruti Suzuki India Limited, emphasized, “Rail dispatches are fundamental to our logistics strategy. We extend our sincere gratitude to the Honorable Prime Minister, whose visionary leadership has enabled transformative infrastructure projects across the country. The world’s highest railway arch bridge over the Chenab river stands as a remarkable landmark, providing seamless and highly efficient connectivity to the Kashmir Valley, thereby allowing Maruti Suzuki to better serve our valued customers in the region.”
