A troubling incident has sent ripples through Manipur’s Churachandpur district, as seven dedicated employees of the State Power Company Limited were brutally assaulted by unidentified individuals. The attack, which took place on October 18, 2025, occurred right on the premises of a critical power sub-station in Tuila, leaving the community and the company in shock.
Among those targeted was the officer-in-charge of the 33/11 kV sub-station. While the exact reasons for this unprovoked violence remain unknown, the Manipur State Power Company has issued a strong condemnation, emphasizing the need for immediate action. They are demanding a swift, transparent investigation and the rapid arrest of all culprits involved to ensure justice is served and to protect essential service personnel.
This latest incident unfortunately unfolds against a backdrop of deep-seated ethnic unrest that has plagued Manipur since May 2023. The state has tragically seen over 260 lives lost and thousands displaced due to violence between Meitei and Kuki-Zo communities. With President’s Rule currently imposed and the State Assembly in suspended animation, the need for stability and security for all citizens, including those providing vital services, is more critical than ever.
