Meerut: In a significant operation, police in Uttar Pradesh’s Meerut district have killed a highly wanted criminal, Faisal, who carried a bounty of ₹1 lakh. The encounter, which took place in Bhogi Majra village, also led to an injury to a constable.
Faisal was reportedly involved in 17 criminal cases, including murder and robbery. Authorities stated that just hours before the encounter, Faisal and an accomplice had committed a robbery, stealing a motorcycle, ₹3,000 in cash, and a mobile phone from a local resident and his wife.
The confrontation occurred on the Bhogi Majra–Machroli road when the Jhinjhana police, supported by the Special Operations Group (SOG), attempted to intercept Faisal. According to police reports, Faisal opened fire on the officers, leading to a retaliatory exchange of gunfire. Faisal sustained gunshot wounds and was rushed to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead. His accomplice managed to escape the scene, and a manhunt has been launched to apprehend him.
During the incident, SOG constable Deepak sustained a bullet injury to his leg and is currently receiving medical attention. Police have recovered a motorcycle and two pistols from the encounter site.
It was revealed that Faisal was a key sharpshooter for the notorious Sanjeev gang and was a suspect in several recent robbery cases in the district. His accomplice, Shahrukh Pathan, was reportedly killed in an encounter with the Special Task Force (STF) about a month and a half ago.
