Mandya’s Deputy Commissioner, Mr. Kumar, recently issued a firm warning to all sugar factories across the district. He emphasized the urgent need for them to settle all outstanding payments owed to sugarcane farmers.
During a crucial meeting with district officials in Mandya on Monday, Mr. Kumar highlighted the increasing number of complaints from farmers. These complaints consistently stated that several sugar factories were failing to disburse their rightful payments.
He reiterated the existing mandate: sugar factories are legally obliged to process payments to farmers within 14 days of receiving their sugarcane. Furthermore, they must provide regular status reports detailing these payments.
Mr. Kumar instructed officials to diligently monitor all transactions between the factories and farmers. He mandated that notices be promptly issued to any factory found defaulting on their payment responsibilities.
The Deputy Commissioner concluded with a stern warning: strict and decisive action would be initiated against any sugar factory that failed to adhere to the 14-day payment deadline. ‘Farmers should never have to tirelessly pursue their earned payments,’ he declared emphatically.
The important meeting saw the attendance of several key officials, including Prateek Hegde, Joint Director of the Department of Food and Civil Supplies, Assistant Director Srinivas, and Manager Renuka, among others.
