Police in Angamaly have initiated legal action against a local resident for allegedly using an airgun to shoot two of his neighbor’s beloved pet cats. The complaint, filed by Padmakumar P. Nambiar, names Garvan Shaju from Pullani in Thuravoor village as the accused.
The disturbing incident reportedly took place on September 5th. According to the official police report, Shaju allegedly fired an airgun at one cat around midday, followed by a second attack on another cat at 7:30 p.m. on the same day.
Veterinary examinations, including X-ray reports, tragically confirmed that the first cat suffered a severe spinal cord injury, while the second sustained a chest wound from the pellet attack.
Consequently, the individual faces charges under Section 325 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which pertains to the killing or maiming of an animal, and Section 11(1)(a) of the Indian Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act.
