The Hyderabad Narcotic Enforcement Wing (H-NEW), collaborating with the Tolichowki police, successfully apprehended two individuals suspected of drug peddling. Authorities confiscated MDMA, mobile phones, and a two-wheeler, with the total seized items valued at an estimated ₹1.77 lakh.
The arrested suspects were identified as Mohd Imran (31), also known by the aliases Shukoor or Sahil, a car driver residing in Suncity, Bandlaguda Jagir, and Shaik Baseer Ahmed (32), also known as Sameer, from Humayun Nagar.
Police revealed that Imran, a known addict of marijuana and hash oil, had a history of drug-related arrests by the Nampally and Kanchanbagh police. Despite previous rehabilitation efforts, he persisted in acquiring and distributing illicit substances. After his release from jail in March 2025, he reportedly recommenced trafficking MDMA, obtaining it from an unapprehended inter-state supplier based in Bengaluru and transporting it to Hyderabad via road.
Shaik Baseer Ahmed, who had formerly worked in Dubai, was also found to be addicted to drugs and alcohol. Lacking a stable income, he allegedly partnered with Imran in the MDMA peddling operation. According to an officer, Baseer would deliver drugs to customers and collect payments as per Imran’s instructions, sharing the illicit profits.
Acting on reliable intelligence, the H-NEW and Tolichowki police conducted a joint operation on October 19, leading to the apprehension of both individuals. During the operation, 11 grams of MDMA were confiscated. A formal case has been registered at the Tolichowki police station under Sections 8(c) read with 22(c), 27, and 29 of the NDPS Act, 1985.
Authorities confirmed that Imran obtained MDMA from suppliers located in Bengaluru, while Baseer served as a sub-peddler, distributing the drug throughout Hyderabad. Both individuals were reportedly generating substantial illegal income through this unlawful trade.
In light of these events, the HNEW strongly advised the public, particularly young people, to avoid substance abuse and encouraged parents to monitor their children closely. They also urged citizens to report any information related to drug trafficking to the authorities.
