Acharya Devvrat officially assumed his duties as the Governor of Maharashtra on Monday. The formal oath-taking ceremony took place at the historic Raj Bhavan in Mumbai.
His appointment follows President Droupadi Murmu’s decision last week to assign him these additional responsibilities, while he also continues as the Governor of Gujarat. This transition occurred after his predecessor, C.P. Radhakrishnan, stepped down from the gubernatorial post to take on the significant role of the country’s next Vice-President.
The oath of office was administered by Bombay High Court Chief Justice Shree Chandrashekhar, marking a pivotal moment for the state’s administration. Notably, Governor Devvrat delivered his oath entirely in Sanskrit, upholding a rich tradition.
The dignified swearing-in ceremony saw the esteemed presence of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, along with various other State Ministers, senior bureaucrats, and high-ranking police officials, underscoring the importance of the occasion.
Governor Devvrat, aged 66, brings a wealth of experience to his new role, having served as Gujarat’s Governor since 2019. Academically, he holds postgraduate degrees in Hindi and History, complemented by a doctorate in Naturopathy and Yogic Science, reflecting a diverse intellectual background.
