In a deeply disturbing turn of events in Maharashtra’s Satara district, a woman doctor has reportedly died by suicide. Her cousin has come forward with grave accusations, stating that the doctor was subjected to intense pressure from both law enforcement and political entities, compelling her to falsify post-mortem reports. The doctor was discovered deceased in a Phaltan region hotel room on Thursday night. Prior to her death, she had left a note on her palm, accusing two police personnel of rape and prolonged mental harassment over a period of five months. According to her cousin, she had previously attempted to lodge a complaint with the Deputy Commissioner of Police regarding the pressure to create false reports, but no action was taken. He expressed hope for justice for his cousin, who originally hailed from the Beed district and was employed at a hospital in Phaltan. The allegations include being instructed to issue ‘fit and fine’ reports for patients who had not even been admitted. In response to the incident, Rupali Chakankar, chief of the Maharashtra Women’s Commission, has assured that those responsible will face consequences and has ordered a swift and strict investigation by the Satara Police. Cases have reportedly been registered against the accused police officers, Sub-Inspector Gopal Badane and Prashant Bankar, on charges of rape and abetment to suicide.
