The Maharashtra State Election Commission has officially given its approval to the new ward boundaries for the highly anticipated Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections. This significant announcement was made on Monday, October 6, 2025, confirming a pivotal step towards holding the civic polls.
Following a thorough and transparent process, the finalized ward structure was formally published in the Maharashtra Government gazette and simultaneously uploaded to the BMC’s official website on the same day. This ensures public access to the updated electoral divisions.
Before reaching this final decision, the Commission diligently processed a substantial volume of public input. A total of 492 suggestions and objections regarding the proposed boundaries were submitted by the September 4 deadline. These valuable inputs were then carefully considered during hearings conducted between September 11 and September 13, ultimately informing the final ward formation.
The journey to these finalized boundaries began earlier, on August 22, when the State Election Commission released a draft delimitation notification. This initial draft clearly outlined the proposed geographical divisions for BMC wards and actively solicited feedback from citizens, demonstrating a commitment to democratic participation.
With the ward boundaries now officially approved, expectations are high that elections for various civic corporations across Maharashtra, including the BMC, will proceed as planned by the end of this year, paving the way for renewed local governance.
