The Madhya Pradesh government has taken decisive action, banning the sale of Coldrif syrup across the state after the tragic deaths of nine children in Chhindwara district. These fatalities, which occurred since September 7, are being investigated as suspected cases of renal failure linked to the cough syrup.
Chief Minister Mohan Yadav announced the statewide ban on Coldrif syrup and all other products from its manufacturing company, describing the children’s deaths as “extremely tragic.”
Further complicating the issue, the problematic syrup was produced at a factory located in Kanchipuram. Following the initial reports, the Madhya Pradesh government promptly requested an inquiry from the Tamil Nadu government. Upon receiving the investigation report this morning, authorities immediately initiated strict measures.
Chief Minister Yadav emphasized that investigations are ongoing at both local and state levels, with a dedicated team formed to thoroughly probe the matter. He assured the public that those responsible for this devastating incident will face severe consequences.
In addition to the nine confirmed deaths from suspected renal failure since early September, officials report that 13 other children, including some from Chhindwara and Nagpur, are currently receiving medical treatment.
