The Mangalagiri Court has delivered a crucial judgment, sentencing three individuals to one year of imprisonment, along with a fine of ₹1,000 each. This conviction stems from a domestic violence and dowry harassment case, filed under Section 498(A) of the Indian Penal Code and Sections 3 and 4 of the Dowry Prohibition Act.
Guntur District Superintendent of Police, Vakul Jindal, announced the details of the verdict late on Thursday, October 9th. The case was initiated in 2019 at the Guntur Urban Women Police Station, following a complaint by 24-year-old Tadiboyina Sumalatha from Namburu village, Pedakakani mandal. She bravely accused her 33-year-old husband, Tadiboyina Veeranjaneyulu, along with her 60-year-old father-in-law, Tadiboyina Sivaramaiah, and mother-in-law, Tadiboyina Sivamma, of subjecting her to severe physical and mental harassment over demands for additional dowry.
After a thorough investigation, a detailed charge sheet was submitted to the court. Judge Prasanna Lakshmi, AJCJ, Mangalagiri, meticulously evaluated the evidence and ultimately found all three accused guilty. The sentence includes a stipulation that each convict will serve an additional one month of imprisonment should they default on the payment of their fines.
