The 12th edition of the challenging Ladakh Marathon concluded on Sunday, celebrating remarkable feats of endurance. Hailing from Jammu and Kashmir, Hans Raj emerged victorious in the men’s category, while local favorite Stanzin Chondol dominated the women’s race.
Hans Raj completed the demanding course in an impressive 2 hours, 47 minutes, and 41 seconds. Stanzin Chondol showcased exceptional strength, finishing her race in 3 hours and 13 minutes, securing a significant win by nearly 15 minutes over her closest competitor, Disket Dolma.
The marathon weekend kicked off with intense ultra-distance events. On Friday, Tsewang Kundan and Sufiya Sufi pushed their limits to win the grueling 122km Silk Route Ultra. Meanwhile, Shabir Hussain and Namgyal Lhamo proved their mettle by conquering the formidable 72km Khardung La Challenge in their respective categories.
This year’s event transformed the picturesque Ladakh hills into a vibrant arena for nearly 6,600 runners, attracting participants from all corners of India and 30 international nations. The diverse turnout underscored the growing global appeal of the Ladakh Marathon.
Chewang Motup Goba, the passionate founder and organizer of the event, expressed his vision for the marathon: “With every passing edition, we’re not just commemorating human endurance and resilience; we’re actively working towards establishing the Ladakh Marathon as one of the world’s premier racing destinations.”
