The Kuppam Area Development Authority (KADA) has unveiled an ambitious and comprehensive roadmap designed to transform the entire Kuppam Assembly Constituency into a pioneering ‘Net-Zero’ model. This forward-thinking initiative, which aligns perfectly with the ‘Swarna Kuppam Vision 2029’ — a plan introduced by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu earlier this year — targets key areas such as energy consumption, waste management, and urban infrastructure for sustainable development.
Highlighting its commitment to environmental excellence, Kuppam Municipality recently received the prestigious ‘Swachh Municipality’ award for towns with populations under 50,000. Additionally, the KADA office itself was recognized as the ‘Swachh Government Office’ at the recent Swachh Andhra Awards 2025, underscoring their dedication to cleanliness and efficiency.
Vikas Marmat, Project Director for KADA, informed the media that this Net-Zero model signifies a significant step forward in achieving critical sustainability goals for the region. A cornerstone of the ‘Net Zero Energy’ strategy is the installation of a 190 kWp solar rooftop system in Nadimuru, designated as a Model Solar Village adjacent to Kuppam. Furthermore, extensive solar rooftop projects totaling an impressive 4.36 MWp are currently underway, aimed at providing clean, reliable power to 7,489 Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe households.
Further boosting renewable energy adoption, a substantial 141 MWp feeder-level solar project is being developed to energize 32,106 agricultural pump-sets, supporting local farming communities. Mr. Marmat also highlighted KADA’s collaboration with IIT-Kanpur, which is providing crucial technical expertise and support for studies related to this comprehensive Net-Zero transition.
Promoting eco-friendly transportation, KADA has distributed 400 e-cycles to women in the area and deployed 48 e-autos for efficient door-to-door waste collection. Additionally, the constituency is seeing the installation of energy-efficient street lighting, featuring advanced daylight and motion sensors to further reduce energy consumption.
The ‘Net Zero Waste’ initiatives are equally impactful. Kuppam Municipality has successfully processed 20,000 metric tonnes of legacy waste, a significant achievement that has prevented an estimated 13,850 tonnes of carbon emissions. A strict ban on single-use plastics is in effect, complemented by a 15-year waste management and awareness program launched through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Academy of Gandhian Studies–ITC.
Even major infrastructure projects like the LPG crematorium, NTR Sports Complex, and Kuppam Central Park are being developed with Net-Zero principles at their core. Mr. Marmat affirmed, ‘All future buildings and facilities across Kuppam will be meticulously designed and maintained to meet our stringent Net-Zero objectives, ensuring a sustainable legacy for generations to come.’
