Union Minister for Heavy Industries and Steel H.D. Kumaraswamy has called upon the state government to provide immediate assistance to residents grappling with severe floods across several districts in the Kalyana Karnataka region.
Beyond the impact of heavy local rainfall, the situation has worsened due to water releases from Maharashtra’s Ujani and Neera reservoirs, endangering numerous low-lying communities, such as Bennethora, with rapidly rising water levels.
In a statement released on Sunday, September 28, 2025, Mr. Kumaraswamy confirmed that he personally contacted the Deputy Commissioners of Kalaburagi, Yadgir, Vijayapura, Bidar, and Raichur. He instructed them to expedite all necessary relief operations.
Intensifying Rescue Operations
He emphasized the profound distress caused by severe flooding in districts like Kalaburagi, Vijayapura, Bidar, Raichur, and Koppal. He stressed that the state government’s immediate and paramount concern must be the protection of lives and the provision of essential services to those affected during this critical period.
Kumaraswamy called on the State government to establish relief camps in every flood-impacted taluk, ensuring that emergency provisions are readily available. He specifically requested the swift distribution of sufficient food supplies, clean drinking water, clothing, blankets, and essential medicines to all affected districts.
Mr. Kumaraswamy recommended that personnel from the NDRF and SDRF significantly boost their rescue missions, with a particular focus on safeguarding vulnerable populations such as the elderly, children, and women. He further advised converting schools, hostels, and other educational facilities into temporary relief and health centers, ensuring proper arrangements for relocating flood-affected families and young children to secure locations.
Addressing Crop Losses
Beyond the tragic loss of life, these districts have endured extensive crop damage and destruction. The plight of farmers is deeply concerning, and it is crucial to provide them with prompt and adequate relief to help them recover their livelihoods.
Livestock and other animals have also been severely impacted. The minister stressed the need for urgent measures to provide fodder, shelter, and veterinary care, particularly for livestock, which are vital to the farming community. He insisted that public health and animal health teams remain on high alert.
Central Government Support
The Kalyana Karnataka districts, including Bidar, Vijayapura, Yadgir, and Kalaburagi, experienced relentless heavy rainfall during the Gauri Ganesh festival. Mr. Kumaraswamy expressed his hope that residents would not face similar hardships during the upcoming Dasara and Deepavali festivals.
Finally, Mr. Kumaraswamy reiterated the Central government’s commitment to offering comprehensive support and cooperation to all individuals impacted by the floods.
