The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) has sharply criticized the State government for its decision to increase city bus fares, arguing that this move will unfairly impose a monthly financial burden of at least ₹500 on the poor.
On Sunday, BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao issued a statement condemning the fare hike. He pointed out that instead of offering concessions to support the public transport company, the Congress government has opted to raise bus fares, coming on the heels of recent increases in bus pass charges. Rama Rao declared this action “nothing but an indication of the inefficiency of the Congress government.”
He further emphasized that “the decision to burden RTC passengers with a fare increase will disproportionately affect daily wage earners who rely on public transport to search for work, often without the guarantee of securing employment for the day.” Rama Rao also highlighted that the government had already made commuting more expensive for students by raising monthly bus pass and T-24 ticket charges.
