HYDERABAD: K.T. Rama Rao, the working president of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), asserted on Friday that the ‘incapable and lawless misrule’ of the A. Revanth Reddy-led Congress government has driven Telangana to the very bottom of the nation’s GST collection growth rankings in under two years.
Just a couple of years ago, under K. Chandrasekhar Rao’s leadership, Telangana boasted the highest GST collection growth rate nationwide. However, since the Congress government took the reins, GST collections across all key sectors, from agriculture to real estate, have seen a sharp decline, Rama Rao stated.
He further alleged that the state’s financial health has been utterly decimated under Chief Minister Revanth Reddy’s administration, citing a lack of governance experience and an unwillingness to learn as key factors. Rama Rao’s comments follow the Central government’s release of September 2025 GST collection data, which positioned Telangana at the lowest rung of the growth rate table.
The BRS working president emphasized that these figures clearly highlight the dire state of Telangana’s financial situation and the poor management within the Congress government’s financial sector. He recalled that just two years prior, Telangana’s economy was thriving, with all sectors, including agriculture and information technology, contributing significantly to its top-tier GST growth. Even during the typically high-revenue festive season, all sectors are now struggling, he lamented. Rama Rao urged the government to implement urgent measures to halt this downturn and steer the state’s economy back towards robust growth and prosperity.
Separately, Mr. Rama Rao departed the city on Friday for a three-day vacation.
