Sunny Joseph, president of the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC), has cast serious allegations, claiming that both the State government and the Devaswom board have utterly failed in their responsibility to protect the sacred gold coverings at the Sabarimala Temple.
During a press conference held at the District Congress Committee office, Joseph emphatically called for a comprehensive judicial probe into the issue, to be overseen by a High Court judge. He highlighted the concerning lack of clarity regarding the exact quantity of gold coverings that are reportedly missing from Sabarimala. Furthermore, he dismissed the recent explanations provided by the Devaswom Board as unsatisfactory, suggesting that the alleged ‘theft’ might have been carried out with internal assistance.
The KPCC chief also revealed that the Congress party plans to organize a series of protests, mobilizing devotees to stand against both the government and the Devaswom board. Beyond the temple security concerns, Joseph expressed alarm over what he described as ‘irregularities’ found in the voters’ list for the upcoming local body elections.
Looking ahead, Joseph announced a major political rally scheduled for the third week of October at Kozhikode beach, as part of a broader campaign. He confirmed that prominent national leaders, including Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi, are expected to address the gathering.
