Telangana’s Minister for Roads & Buildings and Cinematography, Komatireddy Venkat Reddy, has moved to ease anxieties among farmers regarding the southern stretch of the Regional Ring Road (RRR). He firmly stated that the government will only proceed with land acquisition for this vital project after securing the full consent of the affected farmers.
The Minister further announced that a special ministerial committee would be formed promptly, following discussions with Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy. This committee’s primary role will be to address all concerns related to land acquisition and the road’s alignment, ensuring a fair process. ‘I assure everyone there will be no unfair practices in the RRR’s route planning,’ he declared. ‘I will personally speak up against any injustice towards our farmers or our beloved region.’
During a media address in Chityal on Saturday, Komatireddy confirmed that the tendering process for the northern section of the RRR is slated to kick off within the next two months and conclude by December. Construction work is anticipated to begin by January 2026.
Komatireddy highlighted the progress made, noting that only 6% of the land acquisition was complete when he took office. ‘Through diligent efforts and persuasion, we have now successfully acquired over 98% of the necessary land from farmers,’ he explained. He also criticized the previous KCR government, stating they ‘failed to show adequate interest in this critical project, despite receiving central approval back in 2017–18.’
Furthermore, the Minister revealed that the original 4-lane RRR design has been upgraded to a 6-lane highway. This enhancement proactively addresses anticipated traffic congestion by 2035, ensuring long-term efficiency. The expansive 161.5 km route will connect key areas including Sangareddy, Narsapur, Toopran, Gajwel, Jagdevpur, Bhongir, and Choutuppal.
An estimated ₹6,000 crore has been allocated for land acquisition, with the costs evenly split between the State and Central governments. Komatireddy confirmed that Telangana’s ₹3,000 crore share has already been secured through HUDCO.
Mr. Komatireddy also extended his appreciation to Union Minister Nitin Gadkari for his strong personal support in advancing Telangana’s infrastructure. He proudly mentioned that Gadkari approved crucial projects like the Gourelli–Bhadrachalam Highway and the LB Nagar–Malkapuram Road based on his direct recommendations.
