The Kochi Water Metro ferry service has officially reached an incredible milestone, carrying over 5 million passengers since its launch just 29 months ago. This impressive figure highlights the growing popularity and impact of this unique aquatic transport system, according to official estimates.
The significant 5 million passenger mark was crossed by Amal and Naina, a Malayali couple visiting Fort Kochi from Australia, as they purchased their tickets at the High Court terminal on Saturday, September 20th. To commemorate this special occasion, Loknath Behera, Managing Director of Kochi Metro Rail Limited, personally congratulated them. He attributed the tremendous success and high passenger turnout to the distinctive and enjoyable travel experience offered by the Water Metro.
Launched on April 25, 2023, the Kochi Water Metro is already planning an ambitious expansion, with services projected to extend to 21 additional locations nationwide. Currently, approximately 20 state-of-the-art boats serve key terminals such as High Court, Fort Kochi, Vypeen, Bolgatty, Mulavukad, South Chittoor, Cheranelloor, Eloor, Vyttila, and Kakkanad. Furthermore, the development of five new terminals is nearing completion, promising even broader accessibility for passengers.
