The Kerala Infrastructure and Technology for Education (KITE), the technology wing of Kerala’s Department of General Education, has rolled out robotics kits to schools across Lakshadweep’s nine islands. This exciting initiative aims to boost robotics education and offer practical, hands-on learning experiences for tenth-grade students studying the Kerala curriculum.
In total, 100 robotics kits have been distributed, ensuring that every three students share a kit, promoting collaborative and simplified learning. To complement this, KITE has also launched an intensive five-day training program for high school ICT teachers and DIET faculty from Lakshadweep, which recently commenced at KITE’s Regional Resource Centre in Ernakulam.
V. Sivankutty, Kerala’s Minister for General Education, virtually inaugurated the training, reaffirming the Kerala government’s dedication. He emphasized that the government is fully committed to equipping Lakshadweep students with all necessary resources, including cutting-edge technology, to guarantee they receive the highest quality education.
K. Anvar Sadath, CEO of KITE, personally presented the robotics kits to school representatives. He highlighted that these kits are crucial for students to delve into the innovative robotics concepts featured in the “World of Robots” chapter of the new Class 10 ICT textbook.
This program will allow students to engage in activities like building circuits, utilizing sensors and actuators, and programming electronic devices, thereby gaining firsthand understanding of fundamental robotics principles. This initiative builds on KITE’s previous efforts, which included an AI training program last month for all postgraduate teachers in Lakshadweep schools.
Mr. Sadath further revealed that the next phase of the project will focus on training primary and upper primary school teachers in Lakshadweep. He also proudly mentioned that KITE has already distributed an impressive 29,000 robotics kits to schools across Kerala.
To ensure broader access, arrangements have been made for schools needing additional kits to procure them directly. The inauguration event saw the attendance of several key figures, including K.K. Shanavas, Academic Expert from the Lakshadweep Education Directorate, and KITE faculty members A.R. Muhammad Aslam, Swapna J. Nair, N.P. Jayan, and Aji John.
