Guwahati, October 12, 2025 – Arun, a long-time confidant of the late Zubeen Garg, presented himself today before the Special Investigating Team (SIT) of the CID. The SIT is currently delving into the mysterious death of the beloved singer-composer, who tragically passed away last month while scuba diving in Singapore.
While officials remained tight-lipped about the specifics of Arun’s appearance at the CID office, his subsequent remarks to reporters painted a clear picture of his stance.
Arun, who was considered family by Garg and even participated in lighting his funeral pyre, passionately called for swift justice for the departed icon. He expressed deep concern over the delays in the ongoing investigation.
This young man had been an integral part of Zubeen’s family for years, even adopting ‘Arun Garg’ as his own surname. “We are desperate for justice for Dada (elder brother). The delay is becoming unbearable,” Arun stated, highlighting the emotional toll the investigation is taking.
When questioned about whispers of financial irregularities and other alleged misdeeds involving other close associates of Garg, Arun maintained, “I’m not privy to those details. My work primarily revolves around ‘Bou’ (sister-in-law, referring to Zubeen’s wife, Garima).” He reiterated his core demand: “All I know is that we desperately need justice. Why is it taking so long?”
Arun also voiced his frustration regarding Assam-origin residents in Singapore who have failed to respond to CID summons on two separate occasions. “Those individuals in Singapore must be brought here, even if they have to be compelled. I cannot fathom their reluctance to cooperate,” he asserted.
The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of Assam Police has formed a 10-member SIT, led by Special DG Munna Prasad Gupta, to thoroughly investigate Garg’s death, which occurred on September 19 in Singapore. The singer had been in the Southeast Asian nation to attend the North East India Festival.
According to a senior CID official, the statements of Garg’s family members, along with other individuals connected to the singer-composer, will be recorded in due course. So far, the agency has already documented statements from several friends and cultural figures, leading to seven arrests in connection with the case.
Those apprehended include Shyamkanu Mahanta, the organizer of the North East India Festival; Sandipan Garg, the singer’s cousin; Siddhartha Sharma, his manager; musician Shekharjyoti Goswami; singer Amritprava Mahanta; and his two Personal Security Officers, Nandeswar Bora and Prabin Baishya.
