In a dramatic turn of events, veteran Communist Party of India (Marxist) leader G. Sudhakaran unleashed a fierce verbal assault on Minister Saji Cherian this Wednesday (October 15, 2025). Sudhakaran directly accused Cherian of plotting his expulsion from the party, sending shockwaves through Kerala’s political circles.
This explosive accusation comes hot on the heels of Cherian’s recent public statement, which subtly implied Sudhakaran needed to toe the party line and avoid causing internal strife.
Sudhakaran didn’t hold back, claiming that Cherian actively participated in a smear campaign orchestrated by certain members of the CPI(M)’s Alappuzha unit. He alleged that these individuals celebrated his anticipated expulsion with “crackers and a tea party,” fueled by fabricated claims of his electoral negligence during the 2021 Ambalapuzha Assembly elections.
“I’m holding back a lot, but Saji Cherian needs to understand he’s not in a position to advise me. No one has ever defeated me on organizational or political grounds because I always stick to facts and party discipline. I am an integral part of this party, not an outsider looking in,” Sudhakaran sternly told reporters in Alappuzha.
The former Minister further alleged that individuals closely associated with Cherian deliberately spread false rumors suggesting he planned to defect to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He criticized the Minister for failing to take action against those responsible for these “cyberattacks,” despite clear evidence of their involvement.
Strong Words for A.K. Balan Too
Sudhakaran also directed criticism towards senior party figure and former Minister A. K. Balan. He specifically cited Balan’s alleged remark about Sudhakaran attempting to undermine his prospects back in 1972, when Balan was the State secretary of the Students’ Federation of India. “I have never spoken ill of Mr. Balan, yet he has remained silent regarding the cyberattacks against me,” Sudhakaran stated.
He concluded by asserting his resolve to “continue speaking out against a faction within the party” that he believes is responsible for propagating baseless allegations against respected senior leaders, including former Minister K. K. Shailaja, across social media platforms.
