Senior Congress leader Ramesh Chennithala firmly asserted that discussing police-related issues within the Kerala Assembly was completely justified. He levied serious accusations against the Chief Minister, claiming he intentionally presented misleading and inaccurate statistics to the House concerning police dismissals.
Addressing reporters in Kannur, Mr. Chennithala highlighted a stark contrast between the Chief Minister’s reported figure of 144 police dismissals and the actual data from the National Crimes Records Bureau, stating that the Chief Minister had “misled the Assembly.”
He vividly described the public’s apprehension when dealing with the police, suggesting that individuals visiting police stations “have to return with cotton in their noses,” implying mistreatment or cover-ups.
Mr. Chennithala emphasized that the Opposition has effectively brought these critical issues to the forefront in the Assembly.
He added, “After the Chief Minister presented his statement, no one was given an opportunity to respond. A point of order was raised, but despite this, the Opposition is unified and pushing forward.”
He stated that the Opposition’s objective in the Assembly was to voice the sentiments of the general populace, who are clearly seeking a change in government.
Furthermore, he dispelled rumors of internal dissent within the party, clarifying, “A.K. Antony harbors no resentment, nor does anyone else. Mr. Antony addressed the Muthanga issue because of his deep understanding and knowledge of the matter.”
