In an exciting move to bolster cultural engagement across Kerala, Samskara Sahithi, the vibrant cultural wing of the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC), has announced plans to establish a remarkable 100 new libraries. This ambitious initiative, confirmed by Samskara Sahithi chairman and MLA C.R. Mahesh, aims to foster reading habits and provide crucial community hubs throughout the state.
The inaugural library, a cornerstone of this grand project, will be known as the Prem Nazir Sahithi. Scheduled for inauguration on November 14 in Sasthamcotta, Kollam, this first branch has already amassed an impressive collection of approximately one thousand books, ready to welcome avid readers.
Initially, these new literary havens will operate from rented premises. However, there are long-term plans to acquire three cents of land for each library, pending approval from the State Library Council. Each institution will honor prominent figures by being named after them, adding a layer of historical and cultural significance.
Beyond books, Samskara Sahithi is also championing the performing arts. A captivating drama festival is slated for October 18 at Bharat Bhavan, Thiruvananthapuram. This festival is designed to introduce the younger generation to the magic of stage plays, with the winning production receiving a substantial prize of ₹55,555.
