Kerala’s Agriculture Minister, P. Prasad, recently put forth a significant suggestion: allowing the public to consume wild boar meat as a strategic solution to the escalating problem posed by these animals.
During a recent event in Palamel, Alappuzha, Minister Prasad highlighted that current legislation currently forbids the consumption of wild boar. He emphasized the need for a change in this policy to address the menace effectively.
Minister Prasad stated, ‘In my view, people should be permitted to consume the meat of wild boars culled in agricultural areas. Granting such authorization could help mitigate this issue far more rapidly. However, existing laws currently prevent this approach.’
He further clarified that wild boars are not classified as an endangered species, which strengthens the argument for a revised approach to their management.
