A wave of apprehension swept through the Kerala Secretariat in Thiruvananthapuram early Tuesday morning, September 16, 2025, after officials received a chilling email claiming the presence of a bomb. This alarming message immediately triggered a large-scale security operation.
Police, supported by a specialized bomb disposal unit and a highly trained dog squad, swiftly launched a comprehensive search across the premises. Their meticulous inspection involved carefully checking various areas, and some staff were temporarily moved for safety. Thankfully, after an extensive sweep, the teams confirmed that there were no explosive materials to be found.
An officer from the Cantonment police station later confirmed that the threat was indeed a hoax. While the entire Secretariat was not fully evacuated, the targeted inspections ensured the safety of everyone present.
Investigators are now actively working to trace the origin of the threatening email. This incident, though quickly resolved, highlights a recurring issue: there have been several similar email-based bomb threats targeting critical locations like District Collectorates, airports, and courts throughout the year. In all previous instances, just like this one, these threats were found to be baseless after thorough investigations.
