The Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) headquarters in Thiruvananthapuram has become the focal point of a significant labor dispute, as various trade unions, including those aligned with the Left, maintain an indefinite protest. This widespread agitation, now in its fourth day, challenges the KSEB management, alleging a “denial of rights” to its employees.
Under the unified banner of the National Coordination Committee of Electricity Employees and Engineers (NCCOEEE), the unions initiated their demonstration on October 15. Their collective demands are clear and pressing: they call for the prompt disbursement of pending dearness allowance and dearness relief (DA/DR) arrears, adequate funding for the crucial Pension Master Trust, and the official approval of long-awaited pay revision agreements within the KSEB.
The protest gained further momentum on Saturday with the inauguration of the fourth day’s proceedings by N. Venugopal, the State president of the KSEB Pensioners Association. A.H. Saju, the State treasurer of the KSEB Workers Association (CITU), presided over the day’s events, underscoring the broad support and unified front among KSEB employees and retirees.
