A dedicated group of fifty-one police officers recently participated in a pivotal five-day training initiative, the ‘New Criminal Laws, 2023 (Master Trainer Course).’ Held at the esteemed Police Training College in Thycaud from September 15th to 19th, this program aimed to significantly upgrade their legal expertise.
This specialized ‘Training of Trainers’ (ToT) program was a brainchild of the Bureau of Police Research and Development (BPR&D), operating under the Union Home Affairs Ministry. It was executed through a strategic partnership between BPR&D, the global consulting firm Ernst & Young LLP, and the host Police Training College, ensuring a robust and well-resourced learning environment.
The core objective of the course was to provide senior police officials with an in-depth and thorough grasp of the recently enacted criminal legislation: the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), and the Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam (BSA), all introduced in 2023.
A statement detailing the initiative highlighted that the curriculum meticulously covered both the significant procedural and substantive amendments brought forth by this new legal framework. Crucially, the training focused on interactive learning methodologies and practical case-based discussions, designed to profoundly enhance the officers’ ability to apply these laws effectively in real-world field operations.
