The Motor Vehicle Department (MVD) in Kerala is gearing up to officially launch its new fleet of 52 vehicles this Friday, October 10, 2025. This much-anticipated event marks a significant upgrade for the department’s operational capabilities.
According to the latest schedule, the flag-off ceremony for these 52 vehicles will take place at 10 a.m. at the KSRTC depot in Peroorkada. Additionally, the event will see Federal Bank distributing 914 new E-POS machines to the MVD, further enhancing digital efficiency.
The inaugural ceremony was initially planned for September 29 but was unexpectedly called off. The cancellation stemmed from a disagreement over the venue; officials were unable to arrange the vehicles in front of Thiruvananthapuram’s Kanakakunnu Palace, as instructed by Transport Minister K.B. Ganesh Kumar. The Tourism department denied permission, citing concerns that the palace premises’ tiled flooring could be damaged by the vehicles.
In the aftermath of the cancellation, Assistant Motor Vehicles Commissioner V. Joy received a show-cause notice regarding alleged organizational oversights. The Minister’s prompt decision to cancel the event and his subsequent announcement of disciplinary action against officials drew notable criticism from within the MVD.
