During its general body meeting on Friday, the Thiruvananthapuram district unit of the Kerala Union of Working Journalists (KUWJ) put forth a crucial demand: an increase in the pension for journalists from the current ₹11,000 to ₹20,000.
This proposed hike is a response to the rising cost of living and recent increases in other welfare pensions. The KUWJ emphasized that a timely adjustment is essential for the existing scheme, which notably includes contributions from the journalists themselves.
Furthermore, the union passed an additional resolution advocating for the inclusion of video editors in the pension program. They also urged the government to lift the current entry restrictions imposed on journalists at the Secretariat.
