The Kerala State Human Rights Commission has launched a proactive investigation into a distressing incident: the death of a young man from Chalakudy, who tragically collapsed on a train and was left unattended on the Mulangunnathukavu railway platform, reportedly due to a critical delay in ambulance service.
In response, the commission has issued a stern directive, ordering both local police and railway officials to provide a comprehensive report within 15 days, detailing the potential failures and circumstances that contributed to this tragic loss.
The sequence of events unfolded on October 6, when the young man, a passenger on a moving train, suffered acute chest pain and collapsed. He was subsequently removed from the train at Mulangunnathukavu station, where eyewitnesses claim he lay on the platform for approximately thirty minutes, deprived of urgent medical attention. Tragically, he passed away before an ambulance could transport him to the Thrissur Government Medical College Hospital.
Although railway authorities assert that adequate medical provisions were available at the station, the victim’s grieving family strongly refutes this, accusing railway officials of severe negligence that they believe directly led to his untimely death.
Following the family’s formal complaint, law enforcement has initiated an investigation. The Human Rights Commission’s decision to act suo motu underscores the gravity of the situation, spurred by reports emphasizing the critical delays and alleged neglect that ultimately claimed the young man’s life.
