The Kerala High Court, led by Chief Justice Nitin Jamdar, officially introduced Niyamapadakosham, an extensive legal glossary containing 6,375 meticulously compiled terms. This significant launch took place on Saturday, November 1, 2025.
This initiative is one of several major projects rolled out by the High Court’s IT directorate, strategically timed to coincide with State Formation Day and the 70th anniversary of the Kerala High Court’s establishment.
The primary goal behind Niyamapadakosham is to foster greater clarity, accuracy, and uniformity in Malayalam legal terminology. During his address, Chief Justice Jamdar highlighted the ongoing efforts to translate crucial Supreme Court and High Court judgments into Malayalam, making legal pronouncements more accessible to the public. He emphasized that this new legal glossary would be instrumental in ensuring linguistic consistency and precision across the judiciary. Alongside the glossary, he also inaugurated several other important ventures from the IT directorate.
Among these initiatives is ‘SheBox’, an innovative online complaint management system. Specifically designed for the High Court’s female staff, SheBox provides a secure platform to report instances of sexual harassment in the workplace.
The High Court proudly noted that this portal was developed entirely by its women developers within the IT directorate, underscoring its profound dedication to promoting women’s empowerment and ensuring a safe working environment.
Furthermore, Chief Justice Jamdar announced the successful completion of the e-Office system’s implementation across the High Court, all district judiciary courts, the Union Territory of Lakshadweep, and their affiliated judicial units. This e-Office system promotes paperless file management, streamlining digital processes for file movement, approvals, and archiving, thereby significantly reducing the reliance on physical documents.
