The State government has officially granted administrative sanction for the construction of the vital stretch connecting HMT and NAD, marking a significant advancement for the second phase of the ambitious Seaport-Airport Road project. This crucial development is approved with an estimated cost of ₹17.31 crore.
During a high-level review meeting, Industries Minister P. Rajeeve confirmed that all tender formalities would be initiated without delay, immediately following the receipt of technical sanction. The proposed road segment at HMT will span 600 meters in length and 45 meters in width. Importantly, the funds required for land acquisition have already been deposited into the designated bank account, adhering strictly to the directives issued by the Supreme Court.
Currently, the Revenue department is actively working to finalize the land handover procedures. Measurements for the construction site, which encompasses a portion of HMT’s expansive 215-hectare area, are also expected to be completed in the very near future.
Concurrently, efforts are being intensified to accelerate the construction of the road section near NAD. The government has already allocated ₹32.26 crore for payments to NAD. Since the preliminary sketch for this particular area has already been prepared, no significant delays are anticipated in the subsequent steps. Furthermore, the tender for the widening of the NAD–Thorappu Road is slated to be issued shortly.
Looking ahead, the tender process for the NAD–Mahilalayam stretch is scheduled to commence in December. Land acquisition for this 6.50-kilometer segment is nearing its completion, with the Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board (KIIFB) having already sanctioned ₹569.34 crore specifically for this acquisition phase.
