The Kerala government is set to significantly broaden access to land ownership by increasing the income eligibility for land title deeds, known as ‘pattayams.’ Revenue Minister K. Rajan announced that the income ceiling will be raised from the current ₹1 lakh to ₹2.5 lakh.
Minister Rajan made this announcement during the inauguration of the Ambalappuzha Constituency Development Festival and a concurrent land title distribution event on Sunday. He highlighted that a wave of development, similar to that seen in Ambalappuzha, is sweeping across all constituencies in the state.
He also proudly stated that by November 1, Kerala is poised to achieve a historic milestone: becoming a state entirely free of extreme poverty. As part of the government’s commitment to making Kerala a “landless-free State,” an impressive 4,09,998 land title deeds have already been distributed. Furthermore, under the ambitious LIFE Mission project, 4,54,000 houses have been constructed to date, with projections indicating this number will rise to 5.25 lakh by the end of the current government’s term.
Rajan further noted significant advancements in administrative infrastructure, with 632 village offices statewide already transformed into “smart” facilities. In Alappuzha district alone, 34 such offices have been modernized, and another 20 are currently undergoing conversion. Specifically for the Ambalappuzha Assembly constituency, ₹50 lakh has been allocated to upgrade the Pazhaveedu village office into a smart facility.
A groundbreaking digital smart revenue card system is also slated for implementation across Kerala on November 1. This innovative system aims to consolidate all revenue-related documents into a single digital card, heralding a new era of streamlined land administration, according to the Minister.
H. Salam, the local MLA, highlighted that the Ambalappuzha constituency has witnessed substantial development projects totaling an impressive ₹1,809 crore.
During the same event, Minister Rajan officially laid the foundation stone for the Alappuzha West smart village office, marking another step in the region’s modernization.
Other dignitaries present at the function included Alappuzha District Collector Alex Varghese, Alappuzha Municipal Chairperson K.K. Jayamma, and Alappuzha Municipal Vice Chairperson P.S.M. Hussain, among others.
